The Day After

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house,
Every creature was hurtin', even the mouse.
The toys were all broken, their batteries dead;
Santa passed out, with some ice on his head.

Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while
Upstairs the family continued to snore.
And I in my T-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans,
I went into the kitchen and started to clean.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the curtains, and threw up the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a little white truck, with an oversized mirror.
The driver was smiling, so lively and grand;
The patch on his jacket said "U.S. POSTMAN."

With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox
Then quickly he stuffed them into our mailbox.
Bill after bill, after bill, they still came.
Whistling and shouting he called them by name

"Now Dillard's, now Broadway's, now Penny's and Sears
Here's Robinson's, Levitz's and Target and Mervyn's.
To the tip of your limit, every store, every mall,
Now charge away--charge away--charge away all!"

He whooped and he whistled as he finished his work.
He filled up the box, and then turned with a jerk.
He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road,
Driving much faster with just half a load.

Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer,
"Enjoy what you got. . . . . .you'll be paying all year!"

I worked Christmas Eve day and it was steady and busy as expected. People were panicking wondering if they'd forgotten anything and overspending and were exhausted from so much shopping. I wonder to myself...did they find the perfection they were looking for? Was it all worth it?

On Christmas we went to Russell's parents house. It was nice and relaxing. We had glazed ham, turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, some type of broccoli and cauliflower dish, pumpkin and apple pie and ice cream.

I had to get up at 4 am this morning to go to work at 6. I had to get up 2 hours early so I have tome to wake up and drink plenty of coffee so I won't be having a brain fog all day long. ;) Today was almost as busy as the day before Christmas and I don't think they expected that at work. People were buying tons of clearance stuff. I bought a bit of stuff myself for next year! I must be falling into that consumerism trap. uh oh.

Russell put some new headlight bulbs in my van. I kinda have night blindness and I think he got scared when I was driving a few nights ago to return movies and I ran over a curb and then drove through a stop sign. I didn't even know he was going to get the bulbs. We were going to the grocery store and he said he was going into Auto Zone just to see how much they were. Then he came into the store and told me they were $50. I said that's too much and he said....well it will be a lot more if you have an accident. So I told him I'd get them after Christmas. That's when he said he already got them for me. :) But really $50 is a lot for 2 lightbulbs! They are the brightest you can buy. I hope I don't blind everyone!

It's very warm here. It was in the 70's today and you don't even need a coat. It's still warm out right now and it's awesome. It was pretty warm yesterday as well. Tomorrow it's going back to normal which is the 40's. I wish we could keep this heat wave a little longer.

I didn't really do any Christmas baking. And that's a good thing, believe me. I did however just eat a Snicker's Santa and it was really yummy. Bought on clearance. ;)

One more thing.....Russell got two vintage sewing machines (over 40 years old) from a house where the people moved out and left all their stuff. One of the machines has part of the bobbin piece missing so I'm going to see if I can find one online. The other one just needs a tuneup. It's an old Kenmore and dang is that thing heavy.....so much heavier the ones today. It's actually made with all metal parts. All I need to do is download the manual (for $8) which I did find online. The stitching tension needs a bit of adjusting and If we can't get it figured out I'll bring it somewhere for a tuneup.
