Putting Things Into Perspective

Today a small boy came to my register with his sister. The boy was maybe 10 years old and small for his age. His left arm was normal but his right arm was withered and about half the size of his other arm. He had much difficulty trying to get his money out of his wallet to pay for his purchase. His sister waited patiently while he finally got the money out. He did not let his disability get him down. I thought about him for quite some time after he left. I wondered if other kids picked on him because kids can be so cruel at times over things they do not understand. I hope he has lots of friends who accept him for who he is on the inside.

I'd like to believe what Sylvia Browne writes about people who come into this world with Down's syndrome or other disabilities. She says they are very special souls who chose this path so that they can progress more quickly in this journey called life.
They affect everyone around them in a positive way and teach us all many lessons although they may not realize it until later.

Seeing an innocent child like this makes me realize that other things that I worry about are just so petty, so unimportant in the whole scheme of things. I wish I could say to him, thank you little boy for the wake up call.
