White Christmas.

Winter Comments & Graphics

Christmas Eve morning I went to work at my usual time, 3:45 am. It was not that cold and was raining a bit so I did not wear a heavy coat. As the day progressed it got colder and colder and we got more rain, hail and then snow. This is what I saw when I went to leave work. Blowing, freezing wind and snow.

This is on my walk across the parking lot.
When I got to my van it was covered in a sheet of ice and this is the windshield looking out.
This is the snow drift that my back tire was in.
I left work and went to drive down the hill to go home. I made it a little ways down and slid sideways the rest of the way. Luckily there were no other vehicles so I didn't hit anyone. I made it to the next light where I got stuck for a bit. I finally left there and went up the slight hill to my house. I got stuck on the side of the road. My wheels just spun and spun. I called Russell who got in the van and tried to drive it. He sat there stuck for awhile with the wheels spinning. This is a picture of him trying to drive and going nowhere.
This is the view from the front porch.
This is what it looked like in the house where snow came in near the window AC. I had to blow dry it so he could get it caulked. The house was 59 degrees.
He probably did not turn the heat up because I complained about the high heating bill that had tripled from the month before. He was in the back room all day playing with the wood stove that he converted back to wood. Someone had converted it to gas. So anyhow I turned up the heat to 70, closed all the drapes in the living room and I was still cold. With the wind blowing so hard it seemed like there was not way to get warm. Later on I made some soup. It's still pretty chilly today but I don't know what the temp is. And I'm not going outside to look at the thermometer to find out. I'm staying inside and trying to stay warm. :)

May you all have peace and joy on this day.

OK so my curiosity got the better of me. I looked outside. It's 23 degrees. Here is a picture of Russell's car. You can tell how windy it is by all the leaves that are blown on that snow drift.
This is the road....covered with snow. I guess they don't plow here.

  1. Oh--that ice on the windsheild is a b**ch to chop off! Sounds like a lot of places got ice storms and then snow--terrible to try to drive in. Up here--we have a blizzard going. Freeways are closed--so you know it has to be bad. (We are quite used to snow and ice and such up here.) Dreadful weather. I am glad to be inside. I hope you finally got warm and don't have to be out on the roads until they are cleared to drive on! I loved seeing the pictures, tho. :):)

  2. We had our snow about a week early, and it sounds as though you got more than we did. It's still pretty icy here though, and the temps are sticking around the 0C mark (I think 0C is about 32F). Last weekend - when the snow started - it was staying below 0C, but it started sticking above the 0C mark from yesterday, I think.

Anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas!

  3. I hope you managed all the snow and cold without too much difficulty.

My step-grandmother's son-in-law's brother (no relation to me but...) was one of those found dead in his car on the side of one of the Interstates. His windows were rolled up and the vague story I get through the grapevine is he asphyxiated or froze to death.
