Turning Back Time

The year is 1977. Disco is all the rage. I'm a junior in highschool. Ok, stop trying to figure out the math. ;) My life is wrapped up in Army ROTC which is pretty popular at my school. We wore uniforms and the one the girls wore were white blouses, plaid green vests and short plaid skirts. It looks more like a naughty school girl look than a military uniform. I spent time after school practicing with the Grenadettes. What's that? That is a drill team where we twirled rifles and tossed them up in the air, throwing them to each other and doing all kinds of neat tricks. It's a wonder we didn't kill each other. I had a bunch of friends but one of the ones that I hung out with the most was Tracy. She had a cool Mom who let us do what we wanted but luckily she also had a strict step-dad who tried to keep a reign on things. I slept over her house quite often and we slept up on the second floor where we heard strange noises at night. She said her house was haunted. There was an upstairs attic where there was a partially finished room that looked like a child's room and we thought that maybe they locked a child up there. Ah, the minds of silly young teen girls.
I remember one time I went with Tracy and her Mom to New Hampshire and we went and stayed at her Dad's (Mom's ex husband) place. The thing was, I'm sure her step-dad did not know we were staying there. I'm sure he also did not know that her Mom let us bring two boys along. We stayed in tents while the Mom stayed inside with her ex-husband. I'm sure there was no hanky panky going on there. haha We went swimming in the pool the next day and then the next day we went home, a day early. I never did figure out why.
Other times we danced to Elvis records which were her Moms. We went to military dances, went to the arcade on the beach and had parties. I had little supervision in those days and pretty much did what I wanted. Would I go back to that time if given the choice? No way. I was way to irresponsible and didn't give much thought to anything I did. I did have fun though and remember that time with fond memories.

Blessings.
