Realities Of Living In Oklahoma

Wednesday night was just like any other night when we are both at home. We were sitting in the family room watching a movie from a dvd. There was another thunderstorm and it was getting to be a frequent thing since we've been having storms or rain for pretty much the past month. Normally when there's a bad storm our weather alert radio will go off and maybe it did but we did not hear it way on the other side of the house. This storm seemed different because although far away, the thunder was almost nonstop for about 3 hours. Since we did not have the actual tv on to get storm updates we did not find out about the tornado and devestation of a town near here called Anadarko. Today we drove there (it's 20 minutes from here driving time) and Russell took some pictures you don't realize how bad it is until you actually see it for yourself. Click on pictures to see a closer view.

Thousands of trees were snapped off like matchsticks and fallen trees lined the roads.Roofs were shredded or torn off
Debris lined the sidewalks and streets
Lightpoles were twisted and bent
Trees fell on homes and destroyed them

Many trees were just pulled right out of the ground

Signs were knocked over from the strong force of the wind
Metal from roofs lay everywhere

So that is the reality of it all.

  2. Oh man so sorry to see such damage! Can happen so fast, we lost 2 of our grain bins last yr in 80 m.p.h. winds and lost power for the day, was not a fun cleanup for many and appears down there not gonna be a fun clean up either!

  4. Been there, done that, hope never to do it again! But, at least you might get some warning about tornadoes, not like the earthquakes in California. Never going to live there again!

  7. I'm glad YOU are okay. The weather is capricious and you never know which way the wind will blow.
