Beyond The Physical

As human beings we are far too attached to perfection. What do we do when we first meet someone new? In our minds we judge their appearance. I am guilty of this as we all are. We look at a person and we instantly think: they are too fat, their nose is too big, they are so thin and bony surely they must be an anorexic, their pants are hanging down their butt so they must be a gang member, they are dressed goth like so they must be a satanist, their clothes are revealing so they must be a slut and the list goes on and on.....

What if we bypassed all their physical attributes and just looked at what is in their heart? What if we actually took the time to listen and what they had to say? In other words look into their soul and learn about the real person. We are NOT our bodies. Our bodies are merely a vehicle for our souls. Today we are bombarded by all types of media with all the answers to our problem of not being perfect. If we do this or that we can have the perfect abs, we can look like our favorite movie star, we can have the perfect wrinkle free skin. We can be that size unrealistic size 2. Certain male parts can be enhanced. Well, what on earth is wrong with being ourselves???? How did we evolve into this society where we value what is on the outside so much more than the person we really are? I wish people would wake up and get it.

In the eyes of God/dess, we are all perfect.
I wrote this because I needed a reminder of that.
Blessings & Peace to y'all.

  1. Totally agree! I've always tried to judge a person by how I personally know them and not by what other people say or first impressions--but they still creep in. You can tell a lot by body language and eyes, I think.

But--on the other hand--when I have had a sudden bad or uncomfortable feeling about somebody I have just met--I have learned the hard way to trust that and avoid getting enmeshed with that person. But those feelings are not based on looks or outward appearance--just a gut reaction that has no apparent cause. In fact--those people looked perfectly "normal"--hehe! :)

  2. I have been thinking exactly this lately. Exactly!! When will we tire of always reacting to the physical, to the appearance, and just get in tune with the human spirit before us. And yes this is my challenge too. Wonderful blog!

  3. So little of that media glare seems to focus on the souls you mention in "Our bodies are merely a vehicle for our souls."

For me, a balanced diet is a cookie in each hand. But I tell people I'm in shape.

Round is a shape... isn't it?

  4. It's a shame things didn't stay as they once were, with people not being so obsessed with appearances. I wonder sometimes if some of it is due to having nothing better to do now that we rely so much on shortcuts to perform daily tasks.

  5. very true..... love is not bounded to physically its more deepeer than physicall attraction and its quite hard to control and think in deep way if you love someone and expect nothing but just love them. Long time ago i wrote a post on thoughts on love and described like what true love is ? i really love this post brings lots of memories back to me... Well done..

  6. Rita: Bad feelings when you meet someone? Yup, I've had that experience with people of all ages. It happens occasionally at work. Someone will come up to me and I get this feeling of evil or darkness. It's kinda scary. I just rush them outa there as soon as possible. Once I had this feeling with a small child and I knew they were a dark entity.

  8. Intense Guy: A cooking in each hand? Sound like the perfect diet to me.

  11. We just had this talk at the break table today at work!! I added my 2 cents worth in for those that never look into the soul, or even desire to get to know some people due to looks,...and I know I am going to blotch this and mispell but hopefully you know what I mean

Narcisists come to mind and have you noticed how society is starting to get?? Seeing more and more people that are just for them and into themselves, the rest doesnt matter.

    sad times...

  12. Rebag: People who are into themselves? I see it every day! It's not about being vain or full of themselves either. They just don't care for their fellow human beings. I often wonder if such people suffered from detachment disorder as a child and did not bond with anyone. Because they sure don't know how to love others.

  13. You know what I mean about the bad vibes off some people. I didn't get mine as strongly as you did apparently. I'd always talk myself out of them because it wasn't "nice" to have bad feelings about somebody I didn't even know. Chuckle! Took me a long time to learn to trust those feelings. :)

About the self-involved people....there are a lot of us who were never taught how to care for or love others when we were raised by those kind of people. Not deliberately mean or cruel--just can't see past their own noses, you know? So we have had to teach ourselves to be more loving and aware people. I am still working at it. :):) Plus I think it is almost a basic part of human nature--wrapped up in survival, you know? Most people are focused on themselves and the people they love and care about--to heck with the rest of the world--the "others"--"them". They just don't know any better, you know? You can't get angry with them--well, you can--but it is like being angry with a two-year-old. And sometimes--I can't see past my own nose and am like a two-year-old myself. I was raised by a pair of them, after all--ROFL!

  14. Good reminder, Barb. Lately I've been plagued by fretting over how badly the weight is coming on, the wrinkles are increasing, gray hair increasing, etc. Have to let those thoughts go. I did read The Secret this summer (because of your advice) and practicing more positive thinking! Hope life is treating you well. Isn't this a hot summer! I'm back home in OK. It was cooler in FL! D
