I Am So Tired Of........

trying to lose weight and not having any good results. Do you know how many times I have started? Heck, I don't even know because I lost count. Maybe I want results too fast. I did move my exercise stuff out of the hot family room at the back of the house to the guest room so I have been using it again. The funny thing is that once I start exercising I actually like it. It feels really good while doing it and after I'm done. I can't really do a lot of walking because it hurts my foot but I can ride my exercise bike, do the total gym etc. It's hard for me to get motivated to stick with an exercise program. Russell seems to think I can eat regular food (he likes fattening stuff) and as long as I exercise I will lose weight. Well it does not work that way. But I can't convince him of this. Anyone want to give it a try? He does read my blog. I don't have time to cook two different meals....one super healthy and one with the stuff he likes....there are times when I'm lucky to have time to just cook one meal. There was a time in my life when I feel like I ate really healthy and I had a health food store a few minutes away and I ate stuff like hummus, falafel, Greek salad, tofu and I ate no meat but did eat fish. I never felt better physically and mentally as I did when I was on this diet. It was not even a diet, it was just a healthy eating plan. Russel says he will eat this stuff but what do you think will happen if I serve up a big plate of stir fried tofu? There is no health store around here but I might be able to get some of the stuff at Walmart. I'd love to be able to go on the Jenny Craig diet but who can afford $300 or more a month for food just for one person? Well I probably could afford it if I made Russell eat Old Roy Dog Food. Do you think he'd go for that? ;) Yummy....here's your dinner honey....a nice big bowl of beef chunks in delicious, savory gravy. It tastes just like Dinty Moore Beef Stew! I could even crumble up some biscuits to put on top. OK so I'm totally joking around here. I'd never feed Russell Old Roy, I'd give him Pedigree. He only deserves the best! OK I'm done kidding around, I totally love Russell and sometimes I don't know how he puts up with me and just wanted to mention that about 2 months ago he called 1-800-quit-now and got some free patches and quit smoking. That is the most awesome thing ever!!
Well anyhow I'm going to keep on exercising even if I don't see results right away. I know eventually it's got to work. :)
Blessings to y'all.

  1. It depends what you call "regular food" to whether or not you can eat regular food and excercise and lose weight. If "regular food" means healthy balanced meals at least 75% of the time, and really fatty foods just as ocasional treats, then you can eat regular food and still lose weight. However, if "regular food" means take-aways, fried things, etc, for at least most of your meals, then no you can't eat regular food and lose weight.

You want to be careful going on a diet though, because - in my experience - the second you come off it you'll probably start putting weight back on. My advice would be to work out a healthier diet for the pair of you (yes, Russel, that means you too) and forget the word "diet". Combine healthier eating habits with regular exercise and you'll soon start losing that weight.

And, don't worry if it's not coming off quickly. In fact, it's better if it doesn't. If the weight comes off slowly there's more chance of it staying off.

  2. Some of those cans of dog food actually *look* pretty good when you put them in a bowl.

I suspect if you just got dog food for *both* of you, you'd lose weight on account of just knowing what it was.

Seriously however, it sounds like Tori is spot on with her advice - hard to follow but like most change - after a while it could become just a healthy no-thinking-required habit.

  3. Good comments!
Tori: Right on. I think we all know how we should eat and that we should exercise but it's putting it into practice that is difficult. I think there are so many conveniences in the world today that make it easy for people to be lazy. We all want the easy way out. I just need to get off my butt and work it! ;)
Intense Guy: I've heard about men who accidentally got a can out of the fridge (dog food) and ate it thinking it was people food. Blech.

  4. I agree with the others--just have to both slowly change over to making healthier foods "normal"--like you used to eat sounds good. And how will Russell know if he likes tofu or not if he hasn't tried it--in several different recipes--hehe! After all--you both want to be around a long time, right? I think small steps work the best--just keep making them and next thing you know, you're there. :):)

P.S. I do like fish, but Karma doesn't like to share. ROFL!!
