Confession/ Addicted

I have an addiction to coke....well diet coke that is. Or even diet pepsi. It's pretty much all I've been drinking for the past two years. I do drink water and sometimes Propel water but way too seldom. I'm trying again to get rid of this addiction. I've only had 1 diet coke in the past 5 days. I feel like I'm detoxing. Seriously I have had bad headaches that I wake up with in the middle of the night, nausea,(and worse), I feel real jittery and lightheaded at times. I'm really determined to do it this time cause I know that Aspartame that is in the diet drinks is the same as a clinical drug. That's what I'm addicted to, not the caffeine. There are more than 50 symptoms that you can have from using Aspartame. The Phenylalanine that is in the diet drinks is even worse. I didn't take any of this too seriously even thou I read online how bad it was. Then I was skimming through a book I have that's written by a Dr. (Christiane Northrup) about Menopause and found a section on Aspartame. She says that it can kill brain cells, cause headaches, dizziness, anxiety attacks, memory loss, slurred speech, numbness, muscle spasms, mood swings, severe depression, personality changes, PMS, insomnia, fatigue, hyperactivity, nausea, hearing loss, blurred vision, seizures....and I didn't even list them all. One thing that I have noticed is that drinking diet drinks causes me to crave carbs like crazy. I will not be having any cravings whatsoever and I'll drink a diet coke and immediately I want something sweet. I have had barely any cravings lately. I'm taking magnesium also which drinking diet drinks depletes the body of. Well anyhow I have to decide if it's worth it for me to suffer from the above things (which I do have many symptoms of) or have my coke. Aspartame is a lot more dangerous than a lot of people realize.


  1. BarbI just found your blog link at the Penny Pinching message boards. What a pretty blog you have! I felt I must comment on your addiction because it is something that we share! I have weaned myself off of Diet Coke in the past, but like any addiction, gave into temptation and there I go.

    I have been trying to limit myself to 1 DC a day, and I have been much better at drinking my water, though usually all of it in the evening. Does that still count? I haven't one the cold turkey method that you are doing, but I am getting close to skipping my morning Coke and seeing how I do. I will use you and the information you posted (scary!) as inspiriation. Thanks! Lisa no longer in Las Vegas

  2. Hi Lisa, I just noticed your comment. Thanks for the compliment on my blog. I have noticed that when I drink a lot of diet coke that water then tastes like crap. Now that I'm off it, water is starting to taste better. Just google aspartame symptoms and see what comes up, it's scary. Feel free to email me anytime you want.
