Remembering Grandma on Mother's Day

I did not have my Grandma Josephine in my life for a very long time since she went home to the Other Side when I was still in high school. But still.....she made a very big impact in my life. I like to think that I take after her in some ways and if I can be half a good a person that she was then I'm doing pretty good. She was a crafty person like myself. She was always knitting or sewing something. This reminds me when I was in 1st grade or so she made me this knitted hat that was shaped like a hood. It was brown and it had fuzzy white angora looking trim all around the edges and it tied in the front. I had not thought of this in years....what a nice memory. Some other things I remember her making me were: mittens and scarves, a blue dress with white trim and clothes for my dolls. When I went to visit my grandparents on weekends she would take me for long walks down to Bearskin Neck and we'd look at the fishing boats and stop at a little stationary store where she would sometimes buy me a new coloring book and some candy. Sometimes we would stop at the schoolyard which was near her home and I'd play on the playground equipment. Other times we would bake cookies together in her cozy kitchen. She would make pancakes for breakfast and we'd top it with her delicious homemade raspberry jam from the berries that my grandpa grew. She volunteered in a nearby nursing home and even played the harmonica for the residents. I remember my Grandpa showing me an award of appreciation that they gave her for the work she did there. My Grandma raised 6 kids during the depression so I'm sure she went though a lot of struggles back then. She was a patient, kind loving woman. Happy Mother's Day Grandma!
Blessing all and Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there.
