Spiritual Sunday

Isn't that a beautiful dragonfly picture? I had a spiritual experience with a dragonfly a few years ago that I will talk about another time. That sounds very weird as I write it but what it all comes down to is they have a special meaning to me. So anyhow there are two things I want to talk about today.
The Golden Rule
I was reminded of this rule( and we all need a reminder at times) while listening to Unity FM radio at www.unity.org. I think everyone knows what it is. Treat others as you would have them treat you. This sounds simple. But then why are people so cruel to each other? Why do some people treat their co-workers better than they treat their own family? Why do some people treat strangers better than their loved ones? Something I heard on the Unity station is to do this: Treat people as if you just met them. To me, that means you will treat them with the utmost respect because you want them to have a good first impression of you.
Since I have to have contact with many people during my work day, I try to treat them all with respect even though it's very difficult at times. And you know what? The ones who are the meanest, the ones who don't return my hello and the ones who have a scowl on their face are the ones who need it the most. I don't walk in their shoes so I don't know what their life is like. Sometimes they are surprised by my being nice to them and they actually say thank you. But if they don't....it's no big deal. I just know I tried to make their day a little brighter. And that's all any of us can do. Just do the best we can. Treat them the way we'd like to be treated. Do you practice The Golden Rule? It's never too late to start.
The Bible
For the first time ever I'm actually excited about learning about the Bible. Not the Bible in the literal sense, but the Bible studied in the metaphysical sense and the symbolism. There is a series on that Unity radio that I've been listening to and I really love learning all this stuff and they make it easy to understand. I'm learning how the Bible was written and put together over a period of 1000 years. Learning the history of how the Bible was written can be pretty interesting. I have discovered that I like learning much more now than I did as a kid. Maybe that is because it's not forced on me and I can do as I choose. Anyhow back to what I was saying....I'm going to try to come to an understanding of how this book that was written, and rewritten, translated and changed over the years affects our lives today.

  2. Very good advice. It's just such a shame it needs to be given. I can't understand why so many people seem to forget something as basic as treating others as you would like them to treat you.

People always enjoy learning more when it's their choice to do so, and when it's a subject they're interested in.

  3. The dragon flies are cool!

And I'm with ya 100% on the golden rule thing.

If you really get into the bible study - I've read "Asimov's Guide to the Bible" and would recommend it. He explores the historical, geographical, and biographical aspects of the events described in the Old and New Testements and really doesn't have an agenda other than to make things understandable.
