We've had so much rain...

that there are mushrooms growing in the grass. I've seen them in lots of yards. It would make a lovely playground for the faeries. Do you believe in them? ;)

Ok so let's see what's new and exciting. Not too much excitement going on here. Russell got the cool idea to put headlights on his riding mower so he could cut grass at night. It worked out great until someone called the police and complained about the noise. So Russell asked them what the noise ordinence was and there does not seem to be one. They just said keep on doing it and if someone complains again, that's when it's time to stop. They should have just complained to him, he's an easy going guy and would have quit for the night. I'll be glad when grass cutting season is over and he will be home more. Oh yeah....he got a second riding mower.... a used one and taught me how to use it. I thought it was going to be hard to use with the clutch and all but it was not really that bad. So I helped him cut some grass today until it got dark. I'll probably be helping him out more if I'm not working.

Wednesday:
I got delayed in writing this post. I started it last night but we ended up watching a couple of movies and by the time we went to bed it was after midnight.

Anyhow.....I'm doing a cooking marathon right now and cooking 4 different things to put in the freezer. We are both very tired of eating fast food or junk food. Russell came up with this idea actually....he said his parents used to do it. So right now I'm cooking lasagna, chicken and dumplings, chili and pork roast. It will all be put in individual servings containers and put in the freezer. I've been working late and he's pretty much works all day and sometimes pretty late so this is what we are trying. Hey....if he came up with the idea why am I doing all the work? Hmmm...... Actually he's still working so he's excused. ;)

Here are a few pics that I took today of things that are still growing around here. This is a tree between our house and our neighbors house. I have no idea what kind of tree it is.
Last of the roses.

Same as that tree between the houses, this is my view when sitting on the front porch.
Flowers growing along the fence in the backyard, this one comes in white and pink.
Maybe a weed? But still pretty.
There are bunches of these nuts everywhere that fell from a tree in the back of the house. I don't know what they are.
That's all folks. Hope your week is going well.

  1. We've had beautiful weather most of the time. It's been a bit wet since yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon though.

When we were about 9 and 10 my brother and I were convinced we'd found a fairy in the garden. We tried to catch it in a jam jar, but when we checked the jar after all there was in it was a bit of something like dandelion fluff, which blew away before we got a good look at it. My Nan told us it was probably a fairy trick to stop us keeping the fairy, and we believed it. After that we never tried to catch fairies again.

  2. There may even be a couple of Caterpillars with Hookahs (from Alice in Wonderland) in amongst the 'shrooms.

Sounds like Russell will be in gor a real dining treat! I'm envious :)

I'm not totally sure but I think the bushy tree is a Crepe Murtle. They've been spectacular this year.

  3. Fairies and mushrooms--hummm?? I never thought about faries growing up. Maybe thought that it would be too cold for them up north?

What a pretty tree and lots of flowers around. Nice! You idea of cooking up things ahead of time and having them in containers--really does work well. I have done that myself--since the invention of the microwave. Easy to grab your dinner and nuke something. Awesome! And then you do a whole lot of cooking in one day when you can be more in the mood--chuckle!

Have fun mowing together. I hope none calls the cops again. Oh--and I am always easily distracted by movies, too. The delight and the curse of Netflix--hehe!

  4. Hi, Barb! You are busy, busy as usual. I'm working one week out each month at the school. Boy, let me tell you! I am earning every penny. They have me running all over the place testing kids. I'm supposed to work 6 hours a day--but turning into 8 or more. That is okay, I need the money even if only paid for 6! I've got a sinus thing going on and pink eye! Wonder if I got it at the school last week?? Take care and don't work tooooo hard. D

We don't have grass in the back yard. We have strangler vines that try to get us if we don't keep them trimmed back on a regular basis! Egads! And it sure has rained a lot here too!
